Stephen Ministry

Stephen MinistriesStephen Ministry has been a Christian caring ministry of our St. Timothy congregation since 1993.  Stephen Ministry was developed by Kenneth Haugk a Lutheran minister.  It is a one on one caring ministry that is focused on the unique needs of the person receiving the care.   A trained Stephen Minister walks with the care receiver through a difficult life challenge.

Who are Stephen Ministers?

Stephen Ministers are members of our congregation who have taken 50 hours of training in topics such as confidentiality, feelings, listening, assertiveness, crisis theory and intervention and other specialized topics on grief, divorce, depression, etc.   A Stephen Minister is confidential, patient, a good listener, non judgmental and able to use their life experiences and brokenness to care for others.  After training the Stephen Ministers attend twice monthly supervision meetings and continuing education.

Who are Care Receivers?

Care Receivers are members of our congregation or community who are experiencing a life challenge or crisis such as grieving a loss, illness, job loss, divorce, childbirth, shut in or people who have a family member in one of these situations.
