Missions

St. Timothy has a tradition of supporting many differnt missions in the community and the world. The Mission Commission chooses a focus mission effort each month.

The St. Timothy Missions and Outreach committee meets approximately once every quarter.  If you would like to be a part of this group, please contact Joline West by e-mail or at 615-672-7201.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

All persons who knit, crochet, or sew are invited to meet at 6:00 pm on January 11th following the Wednesday supper. The prayer shawls that we make in our group will be given away unconditionally; they may not be sold. “The making of a shawl is a spiritual practice which em-bodies our thoughts and prayers for the receiver. Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawls are passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart.” This first meeting will organizational. You will not need to bring yarn and needles with you on the 11th. Call Ginny 822-8044 for more information.

December 2011 Mission - Pastor's Discretionary Fund

During this time of joyous giving and celebration, our mission focus for December will be the Pastor's Discretionary Fund.  This fund, discreetly administered by Pastor Groce, provides support to members of our community in faith who are experiencing unexpected financial crises and hardship.  Because the fund is administered this way, we do not share details about who is served, how they are served, or why they are served.  Instead, we simply focus on the need to participate in the process of serving members of our community of faith from the abundance of gifts that God has given to each of us.

Please remember this fund during this gift-giving season.  Donations should be made to St. Timothy, with a notation in the memo section of your check for Pastor's Discretionary Fund.  You can place your check in the offering basket, send it directly to the church office, or even give online

Thank you for all the support you have provided to our missions in 2011.  It is truly a blessing to be a part of such a caring and generouscommunity of faith.

November 2011 Mission - Trinity/HOPE Thanksgiving Night in the Fight Against Hunger

During the month of November, we will be gathering together as a community of faith in our annual Thanksgiving Night in the Fight Against Hunger dinner being held on Wednesday, November 16, 2011.  For those of you who are new to St. Timothy, let me tell you about our ongoing ties with this "mission" and why it is so important.  For those of you who think you already know about Trinity/HOPE, please indulge me and read on....

In 2005, St. Timothy committed to be the sponsoring congregation for Font Baptiste school in the St. Marc area of Hait; prior to 2005, St. Timothy was active in supporting Trinity/HOPE feeding programs as a general/non-specific donor.  Through Trinity/HOPE, St. Timothy provides hot, nutritious meals to the children in the Christian school of Font Baptiste in Haiti.   In Haiti, the poorest nation in the Western hemisphere, everyday life is a struggle.   Trinity/HOPE is dedicated to bringing hope to the nation of Haiti through feeding programs in Christian schools.  Their motto of "one bowl of rice and beans at a time" exemplifies their continuing commitment which began with serving 42 children in one school, and now serves over 16,500 children in 91 schools throughout Haiti.  St. Timothy is an ongoing part of that effort as 208 children are fed each day at Font Baptiste school.

None of this is possible without your financial support.  Please join us at our annual Thanksgiving dinner as we renew our commitment to feed the 208 children at Font Baptiste.   You will have an opportunity to follow Jesus' command to "Feed my Sheep" even if it's just rice and beans.

Cell Phones for Soldiers

Forty prepaid calling cards have been sent to the Tennessee National Guard and Reserve Headquarters in Nashville for the 40 old cell phones we collected from you, our St. Timothy members, and sent to the Cell Phones for Soldiers group. Each card allows 60 prepaid minutes for soldiers and airmen serving in Afghanistan and Iraq to call home. We presently have over 1,300 Tennessee National Guard and Reserve soldiers and airmen serving in those two countries. Members of our National Guard and Reserve have thanked us for our previous contributions and are elated that we have obtained more calling cards. This program to support our soldiers and airmen overseas is still very active, so please continue dropping your old cell phones in the box
under the Cell Phones For Soldiers bulletin board in the Narthex.

Care For The Troops

We have a new bulletin board for Care For The Troops by the restrooms in the Narthex. Care For The Troops is an organization that helps “to care for those who have borne the battle, and their spouses, children and family”. Please watch as we add new items to this board and let us know if we can be of assistance to someone you know.

Pastor Groce has committed St. Timothy a Veteran Friendly Congregation to actively support our veterans and their families. First, we would like to identify all of our veterans. If you or a family member is a veteran – active military, National Guard, Reserve, Federal civil servant, Peace Corps – please list your name on the CareForTheTroops bulletin board located between the restrooms in the Narthex. If you have a family member or relative serving overseas, please list their name and a
photo if you have one on the board. Those people will be in our special prayers. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO HELP PRESERVE THE FREEDOMS AND SAFETY OF OUR GREAT NATION.

New Uses for Old Hearing Aids

Did you know those old hearing aids a family member or friend has laying in a drawer could help some else hear? That is right, the Middle Tennessee Sertoma Clubs have a consortium with Bill Wilkerson Hearing Center, TSU Audiology Department, Bridges and Sertoma to help individuals who qualify based on income to be fitted with hearing aids for $250.00 through the Starkey Hear Now Foundation.

We receive a $4.00 credit from Starkey Hearing Aid Company for each hearing aid we return to them. Put those old hearing aids in the canister located in the Narthex or the canister at any YMCA location in Middle Tennessee. If your friend or relative lives outside the Middle Tennessee area ask them to put the old hearing aids in a bubble envelope and mail to: Sertoma, P.O. Box 1253, Hendersonville, TN 37077-1253. Don’t include old batteries since they will be past the expiration date and we have to discard them. If need be we can acknowledge receipt of the instrument if a name and return address is included when mailed. Any other questions contact Bill Rogers and in "hearing aids" in the subject line.
