Take
a “bleak
mid-winter” break Jan. 24!
Nashville artist, musician and teacher Karen Lee
Turner returns to St. Timothy to lead us in another warm and worldly
worship
experience Jan. 24 at 4 p.m.—this time Celtic
worship from the tiny
island of Iona off the coast of Scotland. Come learn about Iona’s
ancient
Celtic and Benedictine roots, as well as its current world-renowned
Christian
community; then enjoy its rich worship and music traditions during a
brief
service. She’ll be assisted by Matt Steinhauer and other wonderful
musicians on
guitar, flute and other instruments. Judging from her beautiful
candle-filled
Taizé service last year, this event really promises to light up your
“dark of
winter.”
Dr. Turner, a pastoral musician, liturgist and
writer
with a doctorate in education from Vanderbilt University, has designed
and led
ecumenical worship, spiritual retreats and other adult learning
experiences for
over 20 years. The Iona community builds on its ancient history to
provide
present-day spiritual retreats, youth programs and a publishing house
for
inspiring worship resources and books to connect visitors and
communities
around the world. The Abbey itself, a restored medieval Benedictine
structure,
offers daily worship to guests and thousands of pilgrims each year. For
more
details, go online to www.iona.org.uk.
St. Timothy, as part of its mission
of service and
outreach to the community, started the E&A series last year to offer new opportunities
to explore and
enrich personal faith through education and the arts. The ecumenical
series has
also received a grant from the North Central Tennessee Chapter of Thrivent
Financial for Lutherans.
All
E&A programs are free and open to the public. A nursery for
babies and toddlers
is available (please call ahead to the church office, if possible, at
824-6244 to
indicate nursery needs). A reception will follow the service. Handicap
parking is available in the front of the church sanctuary at 650 E.
Main St. in
Hendersonville; additional parking is located in the rear.
Please invite your friends and
neighbors to enjoy this winter delight with you!
