Education and Arts

Education and Arts LogoAbout E & A

As part of its mission of service and outreach, St. Timothy initiated the annual Education and Arts series in 2008–09 to offer free first-class presentations to its surrounding community. Topics and presenters are chosen to offer fresh insights for daily faith while representing a variety of interests and a broad faith perspective.

All are welcome to attend; a nursery for babies and toddlers is provided at all events. Each program may include a brief ecumenical devotional and a reception to meet the presenter/s.

This creative faith series is made possible by St. Timothy and through generous donations by those who believe in the value of education and the arts.  This year a grant was also received from the North Central Tennessee Chapter of Thivent Financial for Lutherans

Please call the church office (615) 824-6244 for additional information, to request other assistance, or to indicate nursery needs.

How Jews and Christians read scripture differently
Get ready to understand Jesus and Scripture in a different, deeper way -- courtesy of this delightfully disarming New Testament professor at Vanderbilt University.  From her popular teaching and speaking schedule around the world, as well as her countless publications, this historian and scholar brings a fresh perspective to bibical understanding through examination of historical context and religious traditons.  Smart, funny, tough ...she'll enlighhten you and make you squirm. Each lecture stands on its own, but trust us--you won't want to miss either one!  More information on Amy-Jill Levine....
Experience the beauty of songs and liturgies springing from the ancient Celtic and Benedictine roots of Iona, a "wee" island off the western coast of Scotland.  After taking us to Taize last year, this gifted Nashville artist, musician, and teacher is back to guide us to another historic place of pilgrimage focused on peace and social justice, as well as worship renewal.  First, she'll explain what Iona's ecumenical Christian community is all about, then lead us in a glimpse of its rich and vibrant worship tradition.  Get ready for a special treat for your senses and your soul!  More information.... Come be inspired by the personal story of the founder and CEO of Chick-fil-A, who pioneered a chicken sandwich into a wildly successful $3 billion a year resturant business.  He's also a commited Christian who with his family has created a variety of charities to meet the needs of others, while teaching a Sunday School class of 13 year-olds for almost 50 years.  He'll share his guiding biblical principals and strong ideals that you can apply not only in business, but to your family and community as well.  Think of his talk as a pep rally for living an amazing, well rounded life!  More information...
